The water resources engineering department (WRD) was established in 1981. It is a Department of the faculty of Engineering, National University of Laos, and Ministry of Education. WRD is the only educational institution offering higher diplomas and Bachelor degree in Irrigation and Management. WRD is to provide engineers and high level technicians specialized in the water Resources, hydraulic structures, environment, topography, GIS, land management, irrigation-drainage, construction of rural structure Student who graduate from WRD usually become staff in the Irrigation division of the Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Services Office (PAFSO)

and the District Agriculture and Forestry Services Office (DAFSO). They work closely with farmers regarding irrigation farming activities. WRD runs both a Bachelor Degree course covering 4 years and higher Diploma covering 3 years.

The department offers a four-year undergraduate Bachelor’s degree consisting of 150 credits undergraduate bachelor’s degree program. The first two year are made up of basic science and engineering courses. Core subjects are concentrated in the final two years. In the final year, a 4-credit senior project is to becarried out. Students must also seek experience from industrial training for a minimum total period of 4 weeks.
